Dear All,
I observe a very strange behavior when I try to edit Named Query in SSAS 2005 using BIDS.
The error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" is displayed and the Query Builder doesn't start.
That happens also when I try to edit queries on other machines and for all the databases created on the SSAS server. Server restart didn't help.
That worked well before and seems that the only change that might cause the problem was installation of some recent Microsoft updates.
If someone can help I'll be very grateful
Jakub

I had a similar problem with "Object reference not set to an instance of an object.".
For me, it was beacuse I cahnged one of my dimensions, and it messed up the dimension usage in the related cubes. Fixing the dimension usage fixed the issue.

I had similar issue with a measure group partition. This refers to the 'source' property of the partition which can be and can be set to proper source table/view.

I had this similar issue and in my case it was caused by a bad aggregation Design in one of the measure group, once the deleted that aggregation design, the solution started building fine without any error of "object reference not set to an instance". if you are using multiple aggregation designs in your OLAP cube then try to remove them one by one to figure out which one is causing this issue.
(Pls. take a backup of your CUBE schema or do it in a test environment.)
Some time aggregation design cracks when you choose to do a FULL aggregation for those attribute which have lot of members. This is very frustrating to see that error without any context why it is braking.
