I have a SQL 2000 w/ SP4. The databases have no usage but when I check the DB & LOG backup they seem to change. I profile the server but no user connections so it's definitely no app activities. I were wondering if anyone understand what the system is doing that causes the size of backup files to growth & shrink. The only jobs running on the server is Full DB backup nightly and Trans LOG backup twice a day. thanks in advance..

The server still does checkpointing so there would be some very minimal log activity.
Are there any other maintenance plans that run against the databases? They could produce both log and database activity.

Reindexing is scheduled during the weekend. Log backup twice a day and full db backup nightly. I been profiling the server for 3 days and no activities. But log is 200kB at 10 AM backup and 130KB at 4. They alternate like this for as long as we retain the log backup files. Very curious. thanks.
