Database creation script execution questions

  Say you have an existing database that you generated a SQL script for, then you executed that script on the same server.  Is there any way to recover the data files?  I guess I'm asking if the files are deleted and then re-created or just overwritten?

  It fails with an error that the named DB already exists.
