odd SQL Agent issues !

    Hi everyone ,

    Hope some one can offer some advice on this issue we are currently experiencing.

    SQL 2000 SP4 on W2003.

    Issue is that when SQL agent is running , it can about 15 - 20 seconds to return properties of SQL agent. Certain options such as Error log location and local host server on the connections tab are greyed out.

    If agent is stopped , properties box is returned intstantly , all error log location and connection box are editable

    ( Not sure if this is correct and options can only be edited when agent not running ??)

    Agent run as a domain account , that can stop and restart the agent with no issues.

    Account is a member of local administrators.

    When we try to run any jobs when agent is running , there is nothing written to job history table , no indications of failures or success , and nothing appears to be updated in the sys tables.

    Any one have any ideas what to look for and where to start to find the issues ??

    I've had problems with that too, as well as with sql agent jobs hanging. Make sure you apply the latest hotfix (build 2187) to sp4 which appears to be the most stable:

    Is there a more recent build. Seems hotfixes are difficult to find.
