SSIS Migration Options

  • In OLE DB Destination Editor, under Data Access Mode, we have:

    1) Table or view - fast load: Does this mean there will be no logging and hence recovery. What happens if this option is chosen for all packages and tables for migration and failure occurs in between. Is transaction intergrity maintained. Will errors thrown be same as for just Table or view.

    2) Table name or view name variable: What does this mean?

In Connection Managers sub-window, we have:

    1) New OLE DB Connection: Does this come by default with OS for SQL Server. In what ways is it different from ODBC data source connection(why this connection is not provided for use)

    2) New Flat File Connection: Is this to connect to a flat file. Then what is New File Connection i.e. what is difference between file & flat file.

    3) New ADO.NET connection: Is .NET required to be installed on top of OS for this to be available or all these drivers are in-built in SQL Server 2005.

    4) New Analysis Services Connection: What can we achieve with this.

    5) New Connection from Data Source: Does this refer to ODBC or SQL Server 2005 data sources.

    6) New Connection: Which type of connection is this. Does it imply custom built connection.

Under project, can we group packages under some logical unit.

Run the package sequence for executing the package in a certain order. Where do we set this order, in Control Flow tab.

What all are the different ways of deploying packages and executing them.

  • I wish there was a way to kindly make a few suggestions...

    1) Take a class

    2) Buy a book

    3) READ the book

    4) Hire a consultant

It's pretty obvious you have got to get some help.

    Thank-you,
