New Server Registration - Different user name windows mode

  • Hi -

I want to register a remote server in SQL Management Studio for administration purposes.  However when I try to register it, the windows user name and password area is grayed out.  I need to use a different windows username and password to authenticate to that server.

The remote server is running Windows authentication mode and I'd really like to keep it that way and not have to switch to mixed and use a SQL Server username and password.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

  • Use the Windows Run As... option to run Management Studio.  You need to have 2000 or XP to use this feature.  in XP I think it is even available to you in the context menu for the start menu.
