Hi,
I need to link SQL 2K to SQL 2005, I have both server's aliased (named pipes), from SQL 2005 I can link to SQL 2K and query tables on SQL 2K...but I can't link SQL 2005 from SQL 2K. Also, I can't link the Alias name of SQL 2K in SQL 2005 only the actual server name?
I've seen a lot of posts on this topic and no answers...hopefully someone has found a way around this!!
Please help!!!!

OK...things have changed a little, I was able to link to SQL 2005 from SQL 2K (via 2005's alias) and everything works great going that way. However from SQL 2005 I am unable to link to SQL 2K's alias name, althougth I can successfully link to SQL 2K's Network Name. The problem is, I'm trying to test our application with a mixed SQL environment, and I need to be able to call the server by one name (preferably the alias that all other servers use).
Need suggestions...PLEASE!!!!!!!

Megan,
There are lots of idiosyncracies when linking from 2000 to 2005 and back. We have been through some struggles with this in the past and have had some luck but most of our difficulty was over TCP/IP. If you would like to discuss this futher feel free to take it offline and email me and I can give you more details. Otherwise I would reccommend contacting M$ to get their recommendation.
