I am trying to set up performance monitoring of our SQL servers and their databases. We are planning on using a separate server with Windows 2003 and loading the results into a SQL2005 database. Monitoring would be on the remote Servers performance as well as SQL monitoring.
Plans are to use perfmon first to get the baseline then later use SQL Profiler also for the details of the databases. I am trying to find out if any one has done this already and what issues they have run across. Due to the planned future monitoring of networking later on we do not wish this server to be within the production database server firewall.
Are there any security concerns I should be concerned with in regards to the perfmon default port? Any advice?

I am using Teratrax Performance Monitor for our SQL Servers and have found it to be very useful and have found that the resources it takes to use it is very minimal.
