Hello,
I am working on a restore process for a vendor installed server that we have. The server is using MSDE 2000. I have the process down on SQL 2000 to run rebuildm etc. What are the equivalent steps to be run on MSDE 2000. It doesn't appear to have rebuildm on the server.
Thanks,
Brian

It appears that you are at a juncture and need to make a decision. Based on what I've read you can either "Download the MSDE engine from MS and call the vendor for instructions" or "Call the vendor for instructions". Me I'd opt for the latter and take copious notes for the recovery process.

Well, here is the simplest way I found. I hope there is a more straight foward way.
Remove MSDE.
Reinstall MSDE.
Restore master, msdb, model then the user DB's. Somewhat of a hassle, but that is the only way I have found to this point. If anyone has a better way please let me know.
Thanks,
Brian

It seems that you've found the soultion. The only different scenario is that of shutting down the initial MSDE instance and taking copies of all the .mdf, .ndf and .ldf files. Once you have these you then reinstall the new MSDE instance, shut it down and then copy the .mdf, .ndf and .ldf files back instead of restoring databases. However whether you restore databases with the instance up or restore database files with the MSDE instance down you may still encounter issues unless the installatinos disk and directories are identical.
