SQL2000 install when Term.Services = Application Mode

  • I keep reading posts and hearing from others that SQL Server 2000 std doesnt install or run on Windows 2003 when running Terminal Services in application mode.

Can someone verify this or describe what problems are commonly encountered as the Microsoft sys. requirements doco only mentions NT4 Terminal Server as incompatible.

  • I would understand the problem with almost any application installation in terminal services session is that the system registry would not be updated correctly.  Each terminal session is using a copy of the system's registry, and changes to non-user areas are not saved to the server.  To properly install the application, you need to change the terminal services session to Install mode.  And if I remember correctly, it is as simple as just starting the install from the Add/Remove Programs control panel applet.

    Hope this helps.
