All,
Symantec's Backup exec manual says I must use an domain account and grant it sa rights to do the backup.
Is there a way I can use a domain account and not give it sa rights so it can be used for backup.
Any help will be appreaciated.
Regards.

I don't know anything about the Symantec product but you might try using the db_backupoperator role with the account. If it doesn't work, it may give more information about what permissions the account will need in the error message(s). Remeber that it is a database role so the domain user would need to be added to every database along with being assigned the role (that's if it works).

Most backup products require SA priviledges. Microsofts VDI is the api which most of these products use and to be able to run a VDI command you must have administrator priviledges.
