Moving DTS Package

  • Not sure if this is going to sound like a dumb question..  but here goes..

I have a DTS package that opens a txt file, loads the data into an empty table, runs a stored procedure to do some data manipulation and then dumps the whole mess into an excel file.

I save the actual DTS Package and the Stored Procedure code in a way that will allow the whole mess to be recreated on another Server.

I can certainly script out the Stored Procedure so that It can be recreated on another Server, but how do I script-out or save the DTS Package itself?   I know I can do 'save-as' while i have the package open in design mode, but what is the best way to save it so that they can recreate it on another Server?

  • You can save the DTS package as a Structured Storage File within the Save As Dialog box.  This will allow you to send or store the file as well as check it inot VSS.  To open the file you just have to right click on the Data Transformation Services option in Enterprise Manager and then choose Open File.

  • If you can connect to the other server, you can just do a save as on the other server as well.

  • Since I cannot connect to the Destination Server (it is on an entirely different Network at a 'sister company') I'll try  saving  the DTS package as a Structured Storage File within the Save As Dialog box

    Thanks much : )
