How much memory can SQL2000 standard use with Win2003 Server R2?

  • I know SQL2000 Standard should only be able to use 2GB RAM, but I have SQL2000 Std installed on Win2003 Server R2 and wuen I go into the memory properties, under 'dynamically allocate memory' I can see up to 3.5 GB. The server has 3.5 GB installed.

When in doubt - test, test, test!

  • It might be able to 'see it' as a configuration option but I don't think it can actually allocate it.

I  use Enterprise on a 4GB box with the /3GB switch in noot.ini and the most I can actually get is 2.6GB

  • SQL 2K 'standard' can only configured to use 2 Gb of RAM (1.8 or so if you look in the task manager) no matter the OS.
