We have replaced a single box running SQL with a three-node cluster, and a SAN for storage. Performance is improved, and our D/R team likes the failover capacity. I was told by our techs that we have a clean install of Windows Server 2003 and SQL Server 2000 Enterprise, with SP3a. I moved the data from our old production box, tested and brought up all the apps (some web apps, a few Paradox and Delphi Windows apps). complete success, except...
I'd like to set up and monitor a baseline of all the usual PerfMon counters. PerfMon starts up and shows the default counters, but it is impossible to add any others (including of course, the SQL-specific ones in which I am most interested).
The error dialog caption says "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library". The error itself is as follows (complete with exclamation point):
Runtime Error!
Program: c:\WINDOWS\system32\mmc.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.
I'm guessing a mismatch in runtime libraries. I don't get this error on other installations of SQL with seemingly identical environments. I found a few general references to the error message by Googling, but none specific to PerfMon. Any clues from you guys (or folks) to prevent a $$$ call to Microsoft?

Never seen that one... but for something like that, it doesn't take much of your time to be lost before the call to PSS is well worth it...

There are instances when the sql counters don't start - check sysperfinfo and see if its populated, if it isn't your sql counters are not working. There's also something about mapped paths and permissions on a cluster, I had a similar problem whereby I had the cluster in EM ok but any attempt to run perfmon ( from my workstation ) failed as I'm used to having full rights to boxes I was slightly at a loss, my boss mapped a drive to where the sql binaries/logs are and perfmon fired up ok. Hope this might help?
