Setting up Database Configuration at optimum level

    Hi,

    I have a task to setup a Database Server. Client have recommended me to have SQL Sever 2000. But as I am new to a job of DBA I am facing the problem in having the optimum solution. Like:

    1) On what basis the system configuration will be decided for insatalling SQL Server, like HDD size, RAM size, Processor, etc. ?

    2) How to calculate the size of Database, Datafile and Transaction log file?

    3) What values should be configured for the SQL Server Properties?

    4) What values should be configured for the Database Properties?

    Please help me to find the optimum level and the steps to follow when such thing is to be decided, like any standard model is there to follow......
