Hello everyone,
Maybe someone can save me some embarrassment with the System guys. (Good guys, but not above harrassing the DBA)
I installed SQL Server 2000 Std Ed on a freshly re-built Win 2003 server. I didn't like the directory I had chosen, so I immediately uninstalled it, using Programs Add/Remove from the Control Panel.
When I attempt a re-install, I get the following message very early in the process:
"Setup initialization error Access is denied Source 'E:\x86\setup\sqlpre.ini
Target 'C:\Ducume~1\Admin~1.SNW\LocalS~1\Temp\Setupsql.ini'"
I manually deleted the SQL Server directory and subs in C. I am running with Windows Admin credentials and I appear to have all the permissions I need.
I can manually create the "Temp" directory mentioned in the target, but that doesn't effect anything.
I really would like to solve this on my own. Any ideas???
Thanks,
Elliott

Have you rebooted since the uninstall?

Yes, I forgot to mention that I re-started the server, and also removed the installation disk and re-inserted it. I also threw compressed air over my left shoulder and said bill gates name backwards 3 times.
Same error message.

This isn't the error usually associated with not rebooting but I just thought I'd check...
You forgot to spin in a counter-clockwise motion while throwing air and chanting Bill's name.
Have you seen and followed the steps outlined here?

Thanks, I think that maybe the section on the temp files could have helped, but my System pal got here first and fixed the problem. (Naturally, he did this without explaining the "magic" and now says I owe him multiple buys at Starbucks)
So I'm back in business. Thanks for the ideas.
