Dear All,
My sqlserver service is not getting started. In the Service Manager, I have given the Servername, Service as SQL Server. And when I click Start, it is not getting started. It shows the following error message.
"The Service did not start due to logon failure"
"An error (1069). The service did not start due to an logon failure) occured when performing the service operation on the MSSQLServer Service"
Im using Window 2000 Advanced Server and MS SQL Server 2000.
Whether is it necessary to reinstall again? How to proceed, plz tell me...
Thanx in advance.

Here's what I would suggest. First goto services under control panel. Then open the mssqlsqlserver service. Then try setting the login to the local service accout and try starting again.

Hi Sathya,
There are couple of ways u can start ur sql server.
Unregister or delete the registration and register it again with secure user having necesarry rights.
Second go to services undercontrol panal tab and select mssqlservices and see under which user it is running.
if that is a privilaged user then start the service.
Hope this help u

Since you are on Advanced Server I'm assuming you're on a cluster. But that might not be true. This is important since if you are clustered then the SQL Server Service manager is of no use to you. Also if you are clustered LocalService account usage is also not useful. Whether or not you are on a cluster you do have a login failure issue for your service account. Check the Account/Password first. Check the Security portion of the Event Log. Check out the account in AD, there is a tab to allow/disalow access to specific servers. If you are using a cluster and allow/disallow portion of AD then you need to specify both physical nodea ans the cluster as well.
