ETL

  • Informatica, Pervasive or Ascential.  Which one would you recommend?  I am particularly interested in:

    User Friendliness

    Support

    64-bit compatibility

FTP capability (both upload and download)

    Speed.

    Please give your feedback

  • If you can wait for SQL 2005, Integration Services looks VERY powerful so far in SQL 2005 beta 2. It definitely looks like it can handle everything you described. It also looks like you can run it on it's own separate server dedicated to ETL.

From my experience, the rest of the solutions (Informatica, Pervasive, Sunopsis, etc.) are too expensive for small (and even some medium sized) businesses

I have looked into Pervasive but I didn't like their interface at the time. Pervasive does sell their products in pieces though, so if you only needed say, a delimited file connector, database connector, EDI connector, etc for your ETL, you can buy the pieces you need which can lower the cost.

Sunopsis is interesting because it is actually an "ELT" (not ETL) system, which reflects their strategy for extracting, THEN loading into a database, then transforming. It is also pretty pricey.

    Hope that helps a bit!
