I have tried this, and I have had others outside of my office try this, and everyone comes up with the same problem:
On XP sp2 Professional, run perfmon and try view the instances on your SQL server. They show up there nicely next to the performance counters.
Now run perfmon /wmi and try the same thing.
We haven't been able to see the instances for any of the counters. The counters are there, but the instances aren't. This doesn't seem to be a problem with Windows 2003, but I can't find an XP sp2 box that it works on.
Does anyone have an idea why this happens? Our software uses WMI to select and gather data on these instances, but if we can't see them, we can't grab it.
We've tried the .Net 1.1 issue, but that doesn't seem to be it. The registry entries are correct.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what's wrong, though I have seen some reinstalls fix perf counters. Not really a WMI guy, but I forwarded to a few friends. Hopefully someone will respond.
