I've been doing tech support for almost 10 years. 5 of that has been VB/VBA/SQL tech support for the front end interface my company produces.
I want to get out of this tech support field & into DBA. My goal right now is to have the 70-228 & 70-229 passed by years end (with Transcender' help.) My question is this.
With these 2 certs under my belt(eventually), and with the rest on the horizon but with no true DBA experience (other then some VB/VBA/SQL experience) will I be a marketable person? I know this is an open ended question but would like to hear from those that have a good idea of what I'm going thru.
Any suggestions, tips or constructive comments would be greatly appreciated.

(Good + proven) on the job experience is better than pure qualifications. Having the qualifications will show inititive and also an exposure to some defined concepts....but not necessarily show that they can be applied in practice.
Remember there are 2 sides...production support side....and development support.
Prod support....a keep the show on the road focus.
Dev support....quality code control focus and expert tutor for less experienced SQL coders.
Different emphasis on the usage of SQL skills, but both necessary and complementary to each other.

Yeah, heh...funny you mention the quality code control focus. One of my other primary jobs is to review submitted code by field programmers to make sure it meets our standards. If it's not up to snuff, I reject it for support until it's properly written. So I have that going for me too.
And yes...."show on the road focus" is what my current job is all about. More years of that then I can remember.
