Job Overview:
Primary Purpose of Position:
The Database Administrator – Level 2 will be responsible for creating and maintaining complex databases in all hosted data centers that will be utilized for web site and client usage. Such work will be done in a coordinated effort with System Engineering, Network Engineering and Security staff.
Responsibilities:
· Manage service requests applicable for day-to-day administration for SQL and Oracle databases
· Research ROI factors and manage small scale projects related to hosted databases
· Insure the accuracy of the database information and control the day-to-day operations
· Gather data for overall capacity planning
· Provide technical expertise to the entire organization in database management systems
· Analyze initial and ongoing client database requirements to support the creation of databases and appropriate index information
· Function as a team member for research and implementation of new processes and procedures for emerging technologies, methods, and services
· Plan and execute data conversions and migrations
· Develops expertise in use of automated tools for database design and implementation.
· Take an active and insightful role in group discussions
· Record all tasks in Vantive
Qualifications
Education, Experience & Training required:
· Bachelors degree
· Minimum of 4 years experience in database management and Information Systems
Job Specific Specialized Knowledge & Skills:
· Solid understanding of security concepts, principles and practices, including fundamental knowledge of OSI model
· Proficient knowledge of Microsoft SQL 2000, Microsoft Access, Visual Basic, Oracle 9i
· Strong core DBA skills – installation, configuration, administration, monitoring & tuning
· Experience with full development lifecycle (logical modeling, physical design, data architecture, development DBA support & production DBA support)
· Perl coding skills are a very strong plus
· Knowledge of data access methodologies
· Knowledge of data analysis and data modeling
· Excellent communication and documentation skills utilizing MS Word, MS Project, MS Excel and Visio
· Ability to perform after hours, shift work, and be on call via pager during designated periods
·
Preferred Job Specific Knowledge and Competencies:
· Experience supporting a hosted ASP environment
· Experience in OLAP and Data Warehousing database architectures desired
