Sr. Information/Data Architect Needed - Fulltime in NC (100k+)

  • Sr. Information/Data Architect - SQL Server

     

    This position is responsible for data architecture, integration, and implementation of a scalable and efficient data environment to support key line of business application needs in a growing worldwide financial services company.  In addition, this position is responsible for designing and driving the implementation of any future corporate data warehousing and/or data dictionary initiatives. 

     

    The Senior Information Architect is responsible for access to and integration of key line of business application data, to enable efficient and robust use of information assets.  The Senior Information Architect is also responsible for monitoring the operational health and availability of key data stores, and for ongoing capacity planning. The Senior Information Architect will continually improve the business value of all key data stores, drive down TCO, and propose solutions that integrate with and leverage enterprise infrastructure and contribute to the company’s overall profitability.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Additional duties may be assigned. 

    • Evaluates key line of business application data content and structure, identifies and enables data integration strategies to increase the value of information available to business users.
    • Conduct capacity planning and analysis to ensure data environments can sustain continued growth.
    • Proactively identifies and addresses data quality and integrity issues; continually increases the value of information available to business users.
    • Educates business users and produces documentation and information that assists business users with access to corporate data assets.
    • Participate in line of business solution product selection or development activities, to ensure integration with and consistency of corporate data assets.
    • Establish database performance analysis approaches/metrics and conduct periodic performance analysis of key data stores.
    • Assists VP, Application Services with development of technology roadmaps for key data stores, based on executive, end user and operational requirements.  Works directly with VP, Application Services to ensure roadmaps for key data stores are consistent and well integrated with global application services technology directions.
    • Participates in discussions with Core Technology Services personnel to ensure appropriate support for operations requirements (backup, monitoring, disaster recovery)
    • Assists with coordination of production support incidents for key line of business data stores.  Communicates problem reports and specifications for system enhancements to vendors.
    • Works with management to identify other opportunities for process improvements, cost reduction, and efficient, automated solutions.  
    • Determines how changing business needs affect existing systems and provides recommendations for evolution of systems/processes. 
    • Supports the change management process provides impact analysis and recommended solutions for change requests.
    • Assists with scoping of new project and change requests related to key line of business data stores.
    • Acts as project manager and/or key technical delivery resource for small and medium enhancements and upgrades to key line of business data stores.

    Education/Experience:

    ·         Minimum ten (10) years experience in database information technology roles, preferably with large financial services firm(s).  Must have experience implementing scalable enterprise database environments.

    ·         Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills.

    ·         Minimum of five (5) years direct experience working in Microsoft SQL Server environments; working familiarity with ORACLE highly desired.

    ·         Database capacity planning and performance analysis experience highly desired; experience designing and implementing highly available relational database environments and data disaster recovery plans a plus.

    ·         Direct experience as a DBA or in database operations roles highly desired.

    ·         Project management and planning experience; PMI or related certifications a plus.

    ·         B.S. in Computer Science, MIS, CIS or related discipline or equivalent industry experience and course work a plus.

     

    Computer Skills: The candidate should have:

    • Deep proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server 2000, including SQL, DDL, DML and stored procedure development.  ORACLE skills a plus.
    • Proficiency in SQL Server performance tuning and capacity planning.
    • Proficiency with data warehousing and OLAP approaches and technologies.
    • Good working knowledge of database application programming (using VB/.NET and/or java)
    • Proficiency with Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Visio, etc) and MS Project

    Travel:

    While performing this job the employee will be required to travel on a limited basis.  This will include international travel.  Most of the work can be performed from Charlotte.  However there will be times when onsite work will prove most effective.
