Lose permon counters when stop and start an instance

  • We're running several instances of S2K 2000 sp3 on a windows 2000 server and monitoring some information using the SQL related counters in performance admin tool (old name is perfmon).  When we stop and restart an instance without rebooting the server, the related mssql$instance counters disappear from perfmon.  Anyone know of a way to get the mssql$ counters back without rebooting the server?  Thanks!

  • We just went through this and the short answer is no.  You have to reboot the server.  We had MS come on-site to help us and they were only able to get the counters back on half of our cluster.....  This is a known issue app. and has to do mainly (I think) with the fact that perfmon was running when the services were stopped/restarted.

I would contact MS and see if this is covered in your agreement with them....
