We''re getting lazy

  • I am looking for a decent SQL log monitoring, especially alert notifiction etc. software. Also, price is not a big issue but I am not looking to spend thousands of dollars. Can anyone using any kind of software package make a suggestion/recommendation.

We have many databases corporate wide and local that administration of all these is becoming tedious.

    Thanks ahead of time.

  • Try MOM 2005 (Microsoft Operations Management). It's got everything a DBA could want to monitor (and a lot more) with the SQL Server Management Pack.

We're presently rolling this out in production for 150 Windows servers (20 of them SQL Servers).

  • I agree with the MOM recommendation.  I had it at my last job.  Each morning, I would come in, log into MOM and view the status of 22 servers through a simple drill down screen.  It takes some effort to get it setup, but it is worth it.  Wish I had MOM where I am now.
