PARALLEL TAPE BACKUP WITH LEGATO

We have a 500 GB database in SQLSERVER 2000
(SAP FI module). Backing up the database (full backup)with Legato software in one tape drive (LTO) takes about 3 hours. We asked for a test with a parallel striped backup in three tape drives. Our outsourcing company claims that this solution has some problems and Legato doesn´t suggest parallel striped backup!!!
Is this possible ???

Interesting. We use Legato for several applications and I haven't heard about this. But my Network Admin who was our resident Legato expert recently left the company to start his own business so I'm a bit out of the loop here. Have you tried contacting Legato support directly? It sounds like your outsourcer may be trying to dodge the issue. Ask them to show you documentation from Legato that specifically details the problem. I did a quick search on their site and couldn't find anything useful.
As an alternate to that, you may want to give SQL Lite Speed a try. I haven't yet done so myself but am considering it and have seen only good things written about it here and on other sites.
