When trying to backup a sql2000 database I receive the following error:
"Microsoft SQL-DOM (odbc sqlstate: 42000)
The Volume on device xxx e:\backupfilename.bak belongs to a different media set.
Backup or restore operation terminating abnormally."

Can you recreate your backup device and retry to backup your database? What is your SQL Server version and service pack?

Do you have multiple backup devices listed? this sounds like a striping issue. Also be sure you have disk space if this is a disk backup.

Thanks all. The issue was resolved by running a backup with the FORMAT option.Jim
