We are going to purchase HP MSA1000 SAN for a cluster SQL Server 2000. The SAN has one controller with 4 I/O channels to support up to 42 disks. I would like your inputs/opinions how to configure the SAN for best SQL Server performance.
Thanks for your advise.

If you are the only one on the san try to partition it vertically instead of letting HP set it up where all luns share all drives. You don't want your log space fighting against your dataspace if possible. Also, if I remember correctly HP uses the hitachi unit that does raid 5 on top of raid 5. I personally wouldn't set it up that way for a database it would require 8 write ops instead of 4 write ops for standard raid 5. The ideal is to setup as many raid 10 groups as you need and make sure that no drive is shared accross groups.
Let us know how it goes!
