To all,
I’ve been swept up in the “downsizing” craze during this recession so I’m starting a search for a new job. Since job postings for SQL Server DBA’s or Developers are pretty thin these days, I would like to contact companies that use SQL Server directly. Does anyone know how I would get a list of companies in the Minneapolis/St Paul area that use SQL Server?
Thanks,
Diane

I will say any major corporation with multiple large departments probably has a site license with MS for clients due to almost impossibility to keep up with them. Many will have serveral SQL DBs and Oracle DBs. The best thing you can do is apply to all large business with or without openings with that as a job requirement. Also, check out sites like computerjobs.com, dice.com, monster.com and your local newspaper website. Attend any job fairs and trade shows that pertain to SQL or developement. Finally, keep checking with all the business and update your resume every 45days, even if does not change as will keep you fresh on their minds.
Good companies to check: telephone, financial services, healthcare, hospitals or physicians offices.
Odds are in the meantime you can find a temp agency but make sure they are not going to put you under an agreement that you cannot work in a related field for 1 year after termination. My opinion, they want to keep you that bad they better pay you what it is worth.

Meteorlogix, in Burnsville, uses SQL server. Unfortunately, we were hit by the same downsizing bug about 2 weeks ago.
