Message: Backup can not be performed on this database. This sub task is ignored.
On a customer's database we're getting the above message while trying to backup the transaction log once an hour. We can do a full backup on the database with no problem. Both are part of the same maintenance plan. The full backup goes every 3 hours (was once a day until we noticed that the transaction log backup wasn't working).
Ideas???

Check the settings for the database. Is it in simple mode? Are non-logged operations being performed?

I think I found it in BOL. The option 'Truncate Log on Checkpoint' was checked. This is to minimize growth of the database, it also apparently makes the transaction logs useless for restore purposes and the maintenance plan won't backup an useless/empty transaction log. We'll know for sure in an hour or so after the next scheduled transaction log backup.

That will do it. In 7 you have this option, in 2000, this is "simple" mode.
