We have a clustered (Active\Passive) SQL Server 2000 Enterprise server. Running on Windows 2003. The basic idea was to a third node to the cluster and update that tp SP4. We got the third node into the cluster no problem. It had the SQL Server 2000 RTM release on it.
This is where it goes south. Being the SP4 is Cluster aware it updated the Original nodes no problem but when it went for the third node it threw the following error:
Setup failed to perform the required operation on the cluster node.
Any ideas or documentation that I can look at so i can get this solved would be great. I ran through this MSKB article but it didn't help much.
How to troubleshoot the "Setup failed to perform required operations on the cluster nodes" error message

Make sure task scheduler is running on the nodes and nobody is logged in on them - we found these cause problems with installations

Hi Arthur,
The error message is extremely generic - you need to look in the sqlstp.log files of the nodes.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321063 "How to troubleshoot the "Setup failed to perform required operations on the cluster nodes" error message" contains details about which files that are of interest (I couldn't see which article you were referring to so forgive me if I am referring to the same).
