MSDTC installation on non-clustered SQL server

    I've got a SQL 2000 non-clustered server and want to set up MSDTC. Everything I find about MSDTC talks about setting it up in a clustered environment. Can it be set up on a non-clustered box?

    And furthermore, do I need MSDTC if I'm only working with databases on the same server?

    Start the msdtc service if you want to use it on standalone instance. Normally its not required on unclustered instances but I read somewhere that its needed in transactional replication (updating subscribers), distributed transactions etc.
