I am throwing this out here to see what everyone elses experience has been with the above trasition. I have some Imceda tools and now that the company has been acquired they have bundled in SQL IDE as an example , to Toad. I have been through a maze of folks to try and get a simple upgrade, was told its free. IDE in, Toad out.... I would be interested to hear what others experience has been with the company transition and I the only one that is really frustrated? Any luck finding the cheese at Quest?

I for one am not happy that Quest bought out Imceda. I finally found a tool that was worth it's weight in gold (Speed SQL IDE) and they are going to trash the product and make everyone use their TOAD product. The used TOAD when working with Oracle and I was not very impressed (although it did make working with all of the oddities in Oracle more bearable).
I'm hoping they decide to make the source code for SQL IDE available to the public domain - but that you can't resell it. That would be great, then I could fix the few problems that exist in the app and I'd have everything perfect.
I hope they don't screw with LiteSpeed - that's all I need is to have these great tools go the way of a Computer Associates aquisition. (Can you hear the flushing sound?)

I'd also love Quest to make the source of SQL IDE available. I was one of the original developers of IDE and one of the founding members of the company behind it, SpecApss.
I no longer work for Quest. With the exception of 2 people, they made the entire Imceda Melbourne development team (the people responsible for IDE) redundant a few months after the aquisition.
I'm still a little dumbfounded by their decision. Quest got rid of us without really even attemping to capitalise on our knowledge and experience of developing an already successful IDE for Sql Server.
But anyway, I can say with a certain amount of certainty, that if the source was ever opened up to the public domain, there'd be a few of the original developers who'd be interested in picking the project up again.

Sorry to hear that Lurks. That helps explain a lot of stuff. Looks like the prize was Lite Speed. Good luck!

Thanks to a followup conversation with someone from Quest, I can verify that LiteSpeed was indeed the prize they were after. Like you, I held licenses to several Imceda products, all originally purchased from SpecApps. I have used SQL IDE Pro for years now; it is my favorite SQL development tool.
When I spoke to the Quest representative, he informed me that SQL IDE is being discontinued and they are going to try and offer incentives to transition those of us using SQL IDE to TOAD. Unfortunately for me, somewhere during the acquisition, Quest lost my registration information. I never got their notice of dropped support for SQL IDE (I found it accidently) and I can't prove I am a licensed user because they can't seem to find me in their records. So far I must say I am not impressed with Quest.
I asked about the SQL IDE product being sold off or even licensing the source code for personal use and was told Quest has no intentions to do either. I would love to continue using SQL IDE even if unsupported but I am afraid I won't be able to. I will be upgrading to a new computer soon and will have to reinstall my development software. Since SQL IDE uses an online registration mechanism, I am afraid I won't be able to register it again. Unless someone knows a successful way around this? Anybody?
Anyway, on the outside chance that SQL IDE becomes a tool that must be replaced, does anyone know of a good alternative solution for SQL Server 2000?

UPDATE (03/02/2006):
Looks like there is a little light at the end of the tunnel (in the form of a completing product)! ApexSQL is holding a special for SQL IDE users; a "Kiss the TOAD Away" promotion. You can find details here:
