here's a good one.
I'm running sql profiler on a machine A. It's profiling activity on machine A. I just got a general network error from profiler "Failed to read trace data."
WTF? how could network have anything to do with it? it's on the machine it's profiling?!?!
Can someone please shed light. this doesn't make sense to me.

"General network error. Check your network"
When SQL profiler or SQL Analyzer lose its connection to sql server, it will report this error. It does not matter the server is on local host or a remote machine.

But then the big question is; why does it lose its connection. I am currently experiencing the same issue.

Are you doing it via hostname or local? How many NICs do you have?
