Thank you Steve.
Got this correct as I have recently read your blog on "Full-Text Search – Thesaurus"[/url] 🙂

No, I didn't see that coming, fortunately realised I knew nothing about it and did the legwork.

hehe... Good question. I remember experiencing this one while trying to help someone with the file last summer. 🙂 Good times.

Awesome question, Steve.
Never knew of this until now and while checking the BOL I came across the section "to edit the thesaurus file.." and in 2nd point it states;
If you are editing the thesaurus file for the first time, remove the following comment lines at the beginning and end of the file, respectively:
and picked 4 thinking it might be the case, and yes, it was correct. This is interesting, need to dig bit deeper. 🙂

The first and the hardest SQL statement I have wrote- "select * from customers" - and I was happy and felt smart.

Nice question!
Full text indexing isn't something I use... had to do a bit of research on this one.
Based on what I read, it looks like even if you had removed the comment lines from the beginning and end of the file, you would also have to use sp_fulltext_load_thesaurus_file to get SQL Server to parse the updated file. Is that the case?

Great question. I don't do much with full text indexing but that is going to change for a project in the very near future so the timeliness was good for me. Thank Steve.

I remembered this from past forays into Thesaurus files and trying to load them before.
thanks for the brush up!
February 8, 2013 at 12:17 pm
From what I read in BOL, the first time a full text query uses an updated thesaurus file, it automatically loads the thesaurus file.. I have to check if it does so by calling sp_fulltext_load_thesaurus_file or if there is any other way...
