I have the rights to dbanalyst.com domain name. I was going to use it for consulting work, but have decided against that at the current time.
Can someone suggest how I might best find an interested buyer? Thanks.

I thought of that. But, the name will appeal only to a select group of individuals/companies, given it's obvious database connection. That's why I was trying to find a way to reach just that audience.
When I think of Ebay, I just think, perhaps incorrectly, of people trying to "flip" domain names, or trying to make a buck by putting up a fadish or porn-related site. I've "owned" dbanalyst.com for more than ten years.
Maybe the best way to get some value out of it would be to actually USE it. 🙂

It's not worth much... no site, no traffic, no monetization method in place.
You'll be lucky to get an offer in the 3 figures... definitely not 4.

that is true.. however it would only cost you a couple of £ to find out if there are any buyers out there.

I remember the go-go years for domain names. THis one site I visited valued it at $30,000 - not that they were actually offering that. It was one of those rate-my-domain-name type sites, where people just tried to convince each other that their tulip bulb was worth the price of a house.
(Sorry for the "Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds" [by Charles MacKay] reference, but the tech bubble surely fit.)
At any rate, maybe I could use it as a site that showcases best practices, etc. But, then I'd be in competition with SSC. And they already do a great job.
So, maybe I can change the request for help to "how could a site with that name best serve the DBA community?"

my suggestion is also keep it and use.
Since the domain is related with the database, you could share some database experience and troubleshooting ways to help people who are really interested in it. :w00t:

I still have a few domains I bought years ago in the hope I might one day make a profit. I have most of them listed at http://www.sedo.com which also generates a small click-through revenue.
A couple of years ago I received an offer of GBP1200 for one of them which actually did put me into profit on the whole deal.

I have my domain at sedo.com too. I doubt I'll get any click-through revenue. Happy to hear you got one sold at a decent price - even better that it was in GBP and not EU funny money - but I digress. Thanks for the post.

Perhaps you can go ahead and host the site, put up at least some SQL Server related content, and then drive traffic to it using search engines and Google adds. Also on the front page have a banner announcing that the domain and entire site contents are up for sell.
That sort of equivalent to purchasing a track of undeveloped land, leveling it off with a bulldozer, and then putting up a billboard offering it for sale to other realestate developers.

Also, if you don't have time to develop and maintain a website, then perhaps just create a blog on blogger.com or wordpress and then point the DNS for your domain name to the blog.

Thanks for the very interesting advice. That does seem to be the direction I ought to go in - some sort of traffic generating activity and a for sale sign. (Or some traffic generating activity that I can take some enjoyment in.) Now to just find the time, er motivation, to get it done. 😉
