How to get rid of advertisements?

  • Sometimes, when I am connected to some internet site from my home computer with Internet Explorer, there is an advertisement box placed usually at the top if it that's completely unrelated to the current site. Usually it is some sort of advertisement of another site that I probably was connected to about few days ago. How to remove it? I also have a feeling that this significantly slows down my machine.

    Thanks

  • You could try Adblock Plus.

  • One option is to identify the domain name of the site hosting the advertisement and block it by adding an entry in your ..\system32\Drivers\Etc\HOSTS file.

The following contains more detailed instructions and also pre-compiled lists of malware and pop-up advertiser domains.

Now that's just flat-out wicked cool. What a simplistic approach that makes so much sense. Thank you for this, Eric.

  • Now, does anyone know how to do the equivalent of this on Android and iPhone?
