Silly question - does an index reoganisation carry over to restored db?

  • I'll run some dbcc contigs once i've restored it just to check, but i was just wondering if the nice, fresh indexes I created last night will carry over to the newly restored db.

I can't quite remember how the whole page thing works on the disk...... anyone clear this up for me?

  • As long as the backup was taken after the index reorg was completed, yes, everything is there. A backup is a complete copy of the database, as it currently exists, space allocation, location, distribution, it should all be identical after a restore because all of that is stored within the database itself.
