im trying to upgrade to AS2005 from 2000. i installed AS 2005 beside AS 2000 on a server. the AS2000 instance is the default so i had to give my 2005 instance a new name. i have migrated over all the cubes, but when i try to use the instance rename tool , located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE i get this error:
Cannot open regestry key SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Sql Bin under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
I am using Enterprise edition, on a 32bit server. anyone come across this error?

Are you positive that your server is not using a 64 bit processor? The 64 bit AMD's also run 32 bit apps seamlessly. Check the processor. This typicaly error occurs when the 32 bit asInstanceRename is run on a 64 bit box.

i am positive. i have 3 test servers(real old decommisioned servers), and my own pc, which is a pentium 4, 32bit processor. i am positive all of the computers have 32bit processors, and i am just as positive that the version i have installed is 32 bit. i have tried installing the 64bit versions but i just get an error message saying the exe is not runable on a 32bit machine.
