I would like to know what the community thinks about this. We are planning to do a scale by creating multiple VMWare guests with SQL 2014 standard edition on each. Out IT guys do use Vsphere for other things, is there any specific VMWare product that would help sql server? Also are there any technet like VMWare subscription? Thanks in advance.

"planning to do a scale": what does that mean, exactly??
Done right, SQL Server can be successfully virtualized to run almost any workload. Done WRONG, and you can't buy big enough hardware to make up for the mess you will get into!! 😀

Sorry, i meant scale out. We are planning to get Cisco servers, nothing concrete. This is still in initial stage.

There are tons and tons of white papers on SQL Server at the VMWare web site. Also, a good name to know is David Klee[/url]. He does tons and consulting and writing on SQL Server and VMWare specifically.

We use vmWare and SQL VM's (2005-2014) on Cisco blade hardware with no issues. We do have several tweaks to a SQL VM machine setup for performance reasons.
